Electric BikesElectric Bicycles, although not a new concept, are still relatively young when compared to their more ordinary pedal only kin. Popping up in patents as early as the 1890s, electric bikes didn't really ease their way into the mainstream until the late nineties. The most well known electric bicycle of the time was the Zike which had it's batteries actually built into its frame, however, it wasn't until the late nineties and early noughties that the production of electric bikes swelled to meet a rapidly growing consumer demand. For many, including us at Pedal Electric, the benefits of owning an electric bike are many fold and we certainly wouldn't go back! The ability to pedal if the cyclist wishes is ideal should they find they haven't charged their battery sufficiently and the motorised action eases the stress and strain of a journey, allowing the cyclist to enjoy themselves more without exhaustion! The freedom that electric cycles give people can't be denied, though they aren't merely favoured by older people as is often thought. Young and old can take a lot from electric cycle ownership and it is thought that a hefty percentage of bikes on the streets of the world's cities are now electric! We won't deny that older cyclists and people with restricted movement do enjoy the independence a powered bicycle gives them without the strain of pedalling constantly themselves. An electric aluminium bike can allow them to remain mobile and enjoy the town or countryside with ease, whether it's for pleasure or practical purposes. This trend is slowly spreading to the younger generations too, with many young people recognising the environmental benefits as well as the practicality of electric bicycles. Long commutes to work and aching legs are now less of an issue for many people as electric bikes make strong inroads into the cycle market. With the advent of electric folding bikes, many more options have opened up to people who before may not have had the space. Limited storage at home or inadequate facilities in the workplace often mean that cyclists would have to rely upon a cable lock or other security device to leave their powered bike outside, but the electric folding bike solves this problem, taking up considerably less space and making life a little easier. For many, the folding bike has allowed them a greater freedom to explore their surrounds as they simply load their electric folding bikes into their car and head into the country where they can be used to enjoy and explore the surrounds. Many keen cyclists often take their folding bikes on their camping trip or break abroad so that they can get about without the need to take the car everywhere, meaning they can enjoy more of their holiday in relaxing style. The daily commute into work has now been thrown wide open by electric folding bikes since many travellers who had previously commuted solely by train can now ride to the station, fold their bike up and take it on the train with them without worrying about eating up the space. It can be used when they disembark and then folded up once again upon reaching their workplace, so that the bike and any cycling gear and bike accessories can be taken into their office with them, safe and sound! From university students, to leisure lovers, to office workers, there is no typical cyclist when it comes to an electric bike - the wide range of styles and designs offer something for everyone and with the advances in battery technology, the age of electric bikes is only growing stronger. Electric cycles are here to stay and we at Pedal Electric are proud of that fact!
