There are so many electric bicycles available now that it is difficult to make an informed choice unless you have time to try them all. We have put together the reasons why we decided to sell this limited range of electric bikes in the hope that it might give you some reassurance when making a purchase for a few hundred pounds:-
We wanted an electric bike with an aluminium frame as steel frames are very heavy. We also wanted the very latest lightweight battery as lead acid is also very heavy. Overall we considered the weight to be an issue as you quite frequently need to get you bike up a step or have to manouvre it for storage, you also may need to carry your battery indoors for a recharge and the Lithium batteries only weigh a couple of Kg.
I wanted our electric bike to have the very latest lightweight motor.
I did want at least six gears and the Shimano drop gears on our range do allow you to ride the bike without power as if it was not electric at all. Once in a while I get the urge to take real exercise, until I get to a hill and then I can’t resist the “ power on key”
I wanted a throttle as well as the “Pedalec” function. The “Pedalec” function simply gives great assistance to you while you peddle i.e. you peddle a little and it does a lot of the work. For most hills this is also adequate, but some really steep ones need the additional throttle and then the hill just flattens a great deal.
With the number of potholes in the roads these days, suspension is essential and that includes the saddle!!
